Clinical Research Assistant - Exercise Specialist
Palo Alto Veterans Institute for Research (PAVIR) is seeking a part-time Clinical Research Assistant - Exercise Trainer. The Research Assistant – Exercise Trainer will support research activities for a study on the effects of physical exercise and skills training in Veterans. This position will work with Principal Investigator J. Kaci Fairchild, Ph.D. and other staff in the performance of various activities related to enrollment, compliance, ongoing coordination, review of medical information, and data management.
This a part-time, 20 hours/week, position, located in Palo Alto, CA.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct pool-based group exercise sessions and collect and catalog requisite data
- Conduct cardiopulmonary exercise testing and catalog requisite data
- Conduct physical function assessments
- Help prepare manuscripts and reports, including preparing tables and formatting references and assisting with grant applications.
- Assist with other study-related duties as needed.
- Obtain and maintain requisite certifications and CEUs
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Required: Nationally recognized certification in personal training or group exercise;
- At least two years experience in group exercise instruction;
- At least two years experience in rehabilitative exercise;
- Desired: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience;
- Previous experience working in the VA system and/or experience with intervention trials in exercise, subject recruitment and screening;
- Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate effectively with study participants and the research staff;
- Fluent in the use of wearable exercise tracking technology
- Provide exceptional instruction, demonstration, and modification of exercise techniques
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred;
- Able to learn VA regulations and procedures regarding research;
- General knowledge of research procedures gained through education or experience.
