This position will work alongside a team of nurses, APPs, and physicians in a busy Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Clinic. Assist with leading and training athletic trainers in exercise programs, casting techniques, concussion management, and sports physicals. Integrate with athletic training leadership from local schools.

Responsible for evaluating and monitoring clinic patients as an athletic trainer within an orthopedic patient focus. Will participate in the implementation of patient care under the supervision of an advanced practice provider or physician when applicable. Evaluates injuries, physical conditions, and needs; recommending a scientific care plan to include schedule, treatment programs, and related education based on their capabilities and limitations. Ensures the health, comfort and safety of patients. Documents and interpretes appropriate information gathered from a variety of sources, including the medical record, physician, and family. Utilize appropriate testing/evaluation techniques to assess injuries. Contributes to the assessment of patients and administers treatments as ordered which may include, casting, splinting, bracing and provide education to patient on proper fit and use. Observe patients, document and report changes in patient condition, such as adverse reactions to medication or treatment, and take any necessary action. Assist with planning and implementation of sports physical blitzes, may work as a physician extender. Assist with new staff training and orientation. Follows safety measures to ensure proper use of equipment and supplies. Participates in department task force and committees as needed.

Counsels patients and family members on prevention and treatment plans as directed. Explains and updates safety rules governing daily training, recreational activities, and the use of professional exercise equipment as needed for patient care. Implements and monitors any patient treatment regimen for rehabilitation and reconditioning according to diagnosis and real-time condition.

Provides and assists in leadership to other athletic trainers, including the development and implementation of a system approach to improving and maintaining standards in clinical patient care, patient safety, and health outcomes. Maintains communication and addresses the rapidly changing healthcare environment in which clinical services are delivered across the system. Provides on-site clinical leadership, clinical and technical expertise to clinical and practice operations. Utilizes evidence-based practice in decision-making. Leads patient safety initiatives. Evaluates patient/staff risk events as needed.

Implements the vision, mission, and strategic plan of clinical services and the system.

Demonstrates competency and practices within the full scope of certification expertise/knowledge and utilizes appropriate age and population specific standards as designated in their assigned clinical setting.

Appropriate education level required in accordance with state licensure.

Three years of experience preferred in athletic training setting.

Must be certified as an Athletic Trainer by the Board of Certification and be licensed and/or registered in state(s) of practice and/or possess multi-state licensure privileges as required by position.
