Join Oregon’s public health AmeriCorps VISTA team to build healthy communities and your career! Advance equity in medical surge and patient movement planning in Portland. 

Member Duties 

Part of a health equity and COVID response initiative this position aims to include voices of low-income and vulnerable populations in statewide public health emergency preparedness planning and response. This position has the opportunity to participate in state level public health emergency response efforts. The member can serve remotely or in a professional office. The member will: 1) Build equitable medical surge capacity in underserved areas of rural Oregon. 2) Focus on enhancing preparedness through implementing additional Tele-medicine capabilities. 3) Coordinate with the Oregon Burn Center and partners to understand interregional/interstate dispersion of burn patients in a surge event. 4) Research other states preparedness planning for patient movement, burn plans, telemedicine and how they are integrating equity with the goal to identify key factors in all-hazards preparedness planning focusing on equitable outcomes. Members will serve remotely or in a professional office.

Program Description

This position joins Oregon Health Authority’s statewide AmeriCorps VISTA team. In addition to activities at your individual site, each member receives additional orientation, training throughout the year, team meetings, and the support of the team leaders and project director based at the state public health agency. This position is with the Health Security, Preparedness and Response Program. The mission of the HSPR Program is to develop public health systems to prepare for and respond to major and acute threats and emergencies that impact the health of people in Oregon.
