2223-24 Counselor

Position: Middle School Counselor – Lynden Middle School
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  •  Current Washington State Educational Staff Associate Certificate as a school counselor
  •  Master’s degree in counseling or related field
  •  Valid Washington State driver’s license required
  •  Belief that every student can learn, and every student can succeed
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Successful and recent experience as a Middle School Counselor in a public school setting preferred
  •  Ability to quickly prioritize tasks and respond appropriately in crisis situations
  •  Ability to incorporate strategies and activities for middle school counseling that optimize the learning potential of each learner and support the relationship between academic development and readiness for career, college, and life
  •  Assist students in the early exploration and development of their postsecondary plan and goals
  •  Provide a proven foundation of social-emotional growth that helps students manage their emotions and develop effective interpersonal skills
  •  Incorporate the tools and strategies that support program results data and stakeholder engagement data (data about communications with administrators, parents, students, and stakeholders)
  •  Incorporate school counseling activities into the school’s and district’s MTSS
  •  Use the data collected to identify student needs that drive the interventions and supports provided during the year. School counselors report their outcomes and results to administrators and interested parties
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  •  Establish, maintain, and enhance a school counseling program addressing academic achievement, career planning and social/emotional development.
  • Facilitate small group counseling
  • Teach general coping skills with middle school students
  • Consult and work with teachers and parents
  •  Member of multidisciplinary team
 
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Work Year: 2022-23 school year
Starting Date: August 29,2022
FTE: 1.0 FTE
Hours: 7 hours per day
Salary: Per negotiated LEA contract
Affiliation: This is an LEA represented position
